Paint + water = ❓
“The image really creates itself,” says artist Kim Keever (@kimkeever.art), who pours paint into a 200-gallon (757-liter) tank and photographs the unexpected results. “I just start shooting and hope for the best.” As he approaches 38,000 images in this series, Kim keeps an eye out for new and interesting forms inside the paint. “I’m always looking for shapes and colors that make interesting compositions. I don’t do anything to make them obvious — they just appear. It’s kind of magical.”
After a brief career as a thermal engineer, Kim pursued his dream of being an artist in New York City. “One of the deciding factors for becoming an artist was a video I saw of Picasso when he was in his 70s,” says Kim. “He’s painting and you can see his face, and he just looked so dang happy. I want to be that happy. And this is the way to do it — to be an artist.” 🎨
Watch our story to join Kim in his studio in Manhattan’s East Village.
